Service Description

When a parent dies or is unable to care for their child, a guardian needs to be appointed by the courts. Sometimes more than one family member or even a close friend petitions to be the custodian of that child. Disputes may arise and frustrations occur on how to best care for the child. Similarly, when an elderly parent or adult with severe health challenges needs another to make decisions for them this is known as a conservatorship. This is also an appointment by the courts. At times, family members, such as siblings, may have different ideas on the care of that adult. Mediation can help start the conversation between family members on what is best for their loved ones and come up with creative ideas allowing the entire family to participate in their care.
